Confirmation without Reasoning
Aug 6th, 2009 | By The Worm | Category: Bureaucrats, O-H! Oh No!, Outside YOUR World, Top WTFsThe retiring (read LAME DUCK) Senior Republican Senator George Voinovich says he will confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor as a United States Supreme Court Justice. Why? Well, Sen. Voinovich has not put too much thought into that it seems; other than saying, “Judge Sotomayor meets the criteria to be a justice of the Supreme Court.”
By saying he will confirm here nomination isn’t he already saying that? Also, as a Republican Senator, one would think there would be more of an explanation since most of the members of his party are opposing Sotomayor.
It gets better. It seems his vote of confirmation may be more about stating a point than about the judge herself. According to Voinovich, the process has “become so partisan,” and it “bring(s) out the worst in the Senate instead of the best.”
While Voinovich shares his opinion on the process, it seems his tongue may be a little tied regarding Sotomayor.
